About VetGap

My name is Curtis Eliot Zilbersher. Most people call me Curt, and I built VetGap.

I am not a veteran. But my father served, and he carried his time in uniform with him for the rest of his life. During the occupation of Japan after World War II, he was responsible for transporting Jeeps and checking them in and out to servicemen stationed there. He spoke about those years with pride, warmth, and a kind of quiet satisfaction that stayed with me long after he was gone.

Over the years, I have crossed paths with many men and women who served this country honorably, only to come home and face a system that can feel confusing, slow, impersonal, or difficult to navigate. The Department of Veterans Affairs exists to care for those who served, and while it has often been criticized for falling short, I have also come to appreciate how large and complicated that mission really is.

VetGap is my way of giving something back.

The name VetGap comes from a simple idea: there is often a gap between the benefits veterans have earned and the benefits they actually receive. Sometimes that gap exists because the system is hard to understand. Sometimes it exists because veterans do not know what to ask for, where to begin, or whether a condition, experience, or life circumstance may connect to their service. VetGap was built to help close that gap.

This site was created to help veterans better understand the benefits they may have earned through their service, identify possible gaps, and find a clearer path forward. The goal is simple: to help ensure that no veteran leaves earned benefits, support, or compensation on the table simply because the system was too hard to understand.

VetGap is not affiliated with the VA, and it is not a law firm, claims agent, or paid representation service. It is an independent resource built to help veterans ask better questions, understand their options, and take the next step with more confidence.

A Promise About Cost

VetGap is free, and it will stay free.

There are no paywalls, no hidden fees, and no plan to charge veterans for access to the information on this site. At some point, I may ask for voluntary support to help keep VetGap online, maintained, and improving. But that support will never be required, and VetGap will never become a pay-to-access site.

Every veteran who comes here will always have full access to everything VetGap offers at no cost.
